Electronic Medical Records

Your Health. Recorded with Precision. Protected with Care.

At Suraj Eye Institute, we believe that excellent eye care does not begin and end in the consultation room — it continues across every visit, every year, and every stage of your eye health journey. Our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system is the foundation of that commitment.

A Fully Digital Hospital

Suraj Eye Institute has implemented a comprehensive EMR system developed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of India’s most trusted names in digital health infrastructure. This system is deployed across the entire hospital — from our outpatient departments and surgical suites to our community outreach camps — ensuring that every patient interaction is captured, recorded, and accessible in real time.

All patient data is entered and stored on a fully networked computer infrastructure, backed by dedicated servers and RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) storage devices. RAID storage means that even in the unlikely event of a hardware failure, your data is never lost — it is automatically preserved across multiple disks simultaneously.

We are proud to be an almost entirely paperless hospital. This is not simply a technological milestone; it reflects our deep commitment to accuracy, efficiency, and the quality of care we deliver to every patient who walks through our doors.

Why Your Electronic Medical Record Matters to You

Your EMR is more than a digital file — it is a comprehensive, longitudinal record of your eye health. Every consultation, diagnosis, investigation, surgical procedure, and prescription is documented and instantly retrievable. This means:

  • When you visit us for a follow-up, your doctor can review your complete history within seconds — no searching through paper files, no missing records.
  • When a new clinical concern arises, your prior baseline data — such as intraocular pressure trends, visual field records, or retinal imaging — is available immediately for comparison.
  • If you are referred to a specialist within our institute, they have instant access to your full record, ensuring seamless, uninterrupted care.

Long-Term Follow-Up and Disease Management

Many eye conditions — glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, keratoconus — are chronic and progressive. Managing them well requires watching for subtle changes over months and years. Our EMR system makes this possible in a way that paper records never could.

Your doctor can track the progression of a condition with precision, comparing today’s findings against records from two, five, or even ten years ago. This longitudinal view is invaluable — it is often the small, incremental change over time that signals when treatment must be adjusted, intensified, or modified. Your long-term safety and outcomes depend on this continuity, and our EMR system ensures it is never compromised.

Consistency, Protocols, and Quality of Care

Our EMR is built around ICD-10 international disease coding standards, ensuring that every diagnosis is documented with clinical precision and global consistency. This also enables us to follow evidence-based, protocol-driven treatment pathways for common conditions — so that the standard of care you receive is not dependent on any single individual, but is embedded in the system itself.

Alerts within the EMR automatically flag important clinical information: if you have diabetes, a known drug allergy, or are on anticoagulant therapy, your treating doctor is notified at the point of care — reducing risk and improving patient safety at every step.

Advanced Imaging — Stored, Secured, Always Available

Suraj Eye Institute is equipped with the Spectralis and Anterion imaging platforms by Heidelberg Engineering — among the most advanced diagnostic instruments available in ophthalmology today.

The Spectralis provides ultra-high-resolution OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and fundus imaging of the retina and optic nerve, enabling micron-level structural detail that is essential for diagnosing and monitoring glaucoma, macular disease, diabetic eye disease, and retinal disorders. The Anterion is a next-generation anterior segment OCT and biometry platform used for corneal mapping, cataract surgical planning, and keratoconus assessment.

All imaging data from both platforms is stored on dedicated, high-capacity servers within the hospital. This means your retinal scans, corneal maps, and optic nerve images are available for instant retrieval and direct side-by-side comparison at every visit — allowing your doctor to detect even the most subtle structural changes over time with complete confidence.

Your Data Is Protected

We take the protection of your personal health information as seriously as we take your clinical care. Our entire digital infrastructure is protected by enterprise-grade firewall systems that safeguard patient data from unauthorised access at all times. Access to the EMR is strictly role-based — only the clinical and administrative staff directly involved in your care are authorised to view your records.

Your data is stored solely for the purpose of your diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow-up. It is never shared with third parties for commercial purposes. Our systems and practices are aligned with NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) standards for health information management, ensuring that your data is handled with the highest degree of accountability and integrity.

Your Trust Is the Foundation of Our Care

We understand that sharing your personal health information requires trust. At Suraj Eye Institute, that trust is something we honour every single day — through the security of our systems, the diligence of our staff, and our unwavering commitment to using your data only in the way that benefits you. Your records exist to help your doctors help you — now, and for every visit to come.
