The Suraj Eye -A Non Profit Corporation has taken up the task of creating a beautiful contemporary and functional Eye Institute in Nagpur to Serve Central India.
A 16000 sq. metres area of land has been acquired in Mihan area adjacent to the upcoming New Nagpur International Airport. It is located opposite the Nagpur All India Institute of Medical Sciences and the soon to be built Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur.
The building has been designed keeping in mind the current needs, growth of Central India, and keeping future projections in mind. It is equally divided into two areas to serve the charity patients and the private patients. There is a common diagnostic area. There is a operating room complex with 4 operating rooms. The Institute also houses, a ward for charity patients, and rooms for the private patients. There is in addition an auditorium, optometry school and a kitchen and restaurant area.
The hospital is designed to be green and utilises the wind flow and the trajectory of the sun in reducing energy needs. The first stage of the hospital has a capacity of providing quality eye care to about 300 patients a day and sight saving surgery to 15000 patients following all safety and quality parameters. The hospital will be equipped to provide subspecialty eye care for Cataract, retina, glaucoma, cornea, oculoplastics, paediatric ophthalmology, uveitis, public health and clinical research.
