Founded on Vision, Built on Trust
Suraj Eye Institute was founded on February 11th, 2002, with the blessings of Dr. and Dr. Mrs. SS Badrinath, who inaugurated the Institute. From the very beginning, SEI set out to be different — not just a hospital, but a centre of excellence that blends clinical care, science, and compassion.
The Institute came to life through the vision of Dr. Vinay Nangia and the generous support of several partners, foremost among them the Rotarians of Holland. The Institute is a unit of Om Drishti Trust, a NonProfit Foundation dedicated to preserving and restoring sight.

What Makes Suraj Eye Institute Special
SEI was founded by Dr. Vinay Nangia, whose training spans some of the most prestigious institutions in the world. His mission was to bring that global standard of care — previously unavailable in Central India — directly to Nagpur.
Under his leadership, the Institute rapidly built a national reputation in Glaucoma, Cataract, and Retina, attracting patients from across Maharashtra and beyond, while simultaneously maintaining a deep commitment to research and community outreach.
In under a decade, SEI became known not just for clinical excellence but for the quality of its science — with research consistently published and recognised internationally.
