Public Health — Our Work Beyond the Clinic

We go where the need is greatest

Over three decades, Suraj Eye Institute has carried expert eye care into villages, slums, schools, and hospital wards across Central India — free of charge, on behalf of those who cannot afford to seek it.

Blindness is not simply a medical condition. In Central India it is a sentence — to dependence, poverty, and exclusion. Suraj Eye Institute believes that every person, wherever they were born, deserves to see. That conviction has driven five distinct public-health programmes, each targeting a population that would otherwise be left behind.

💡 Light to Lives

Free cataract surgery and sight-restoring care carried to the rural poor — day after day, for over 15 years.

🏙️ Nagpur Million Project

24 monthly eye clinics in Nagpur’s slums — free glasses, free surgery, and dignity restored for 1.2 million people.

👁️ Central India KidSight

Every child deserves clear vision. We have screened over 200,000 school children — in classrooms, slums and remote villages.

🩺 Sight Save — Diabetes & Eye

1,500+ visits to government district hospitals across Central India. Over 40,000 diabetic patients screened and treated before they lost their sight.

👶 ROP — Saving Newborn Sight

Since 12.12.12 we have screened premature babies across Nagpur, Gondia and Bhandara — 1,500 babies a year, catching blinding disease before it steals sight for ever.
